United States Privacy Regulations…Finding a Federal Foundation

Over the last 15+ years, there have been multiple proposals for a federal privacy law that offers comprehensive protection for consumer’s privacy with additional controls over how their personal information is handled. However, to date, the United States has not yet enacted a comprehensive federal law to govern the entirety/fullness of data privacy. What we do have is a complex mélange of industry-specific laws, as well as multiple regulations that affect various disparate constituencies.
